Game Design Document

Image
Game Design Document I'm in a group with Eva Garrett, Nicole Goodman, Robyn Mulhall, Nhu Thai, Marcin Grabicki and Emma Byrne. After doing some research we decided we wanted to make an app for an iPad instead of a game for the laptop we think it would be much more suitable for the game we want to make and for the age group.  We were inspired by Leap-Frog and Animal Crossing.  Kids are attracted to bright colours, we notice colours and begin to distinguish objects based on colour from a very young age so it's important to make sure the game is very bright. We will keep this in mind when designing the game. A lot of kids are visual learners and auditory learners, it's important that they make the association with the sound and word/numbers.  We are making a game for an iPad. The game will be an e-learning game for kids ages four to eight years old.  The game will be a mathematical game based on a farm. The player will be asked a series...

Week 8 Progress

Image
Progress I am happy with my progress so far. I am a few points behind due to missing a reading in the first few weeks and then I hadn't correctly done the declarations for comments. I discovered this a few weeks back when I had 132 points out of 150 points, II was confused so I looked back and saw I hadn't done declarations correctly. I did extra credit the following week for 6 points and I intend to do extra credit again to get the points that I missed.  I find blogging about what we read and do very useful. I am in a way forced to do something within the deadline and because the days are always the same (bar this week) I have got into a routine. I dread weekends because I leave it all until Sunday and I end up ruining my evening, but I enjoy working on my project and reading other peoples blogs. I do dread having to comments on other peoples blogs I always struggle to meet the word count. I also feel really fake and I'm just kin...

Week 8 Comments and Feedback

Image
Comments and Feedback I think the feedback from other students is great. It's good to hear other peoples opinions on your work. I also just enjoy reading them. Although I enjoy hearing suggestions sometimes they're a bit too late, for example after I finished my GDD I got feedback suggesting I do different things but I had already figured out what I was doing. I found it very useful when choosing my game though because I hadn't set anything in stone yet. Though a lot of what people suggest to me is quite unrealistic to make in the time frame and skill set I have. I think some of my feedback may be useful but like I said before they've already made their decisions so me suggesting that they add more or change things in their game seems a bit harsh to me. I usually just ask questions in my feedback on anything I'm unclear about, I do think this is more helpful than me suggesting they add another ten levels. It means th...

Week 8 Reading and Writing

Image
Reading and Writing Review I find the reading assignments a bit long winded sometimes and I tend to lose focus the longer I'm reading it unless it's a topic I find interesting. I enjoyed the first few reading we did on growth mindset and time strategies, probably because they were new concepts to me and they were things that I could apply to my everyday life.  I do like learning about the game ones but I find them very long and I tend to zone out on what I'm reading. Some of the writing keeps me more captivated than others. I have learnt from the readings about games and I do think of them when I play games now and what makes a game "fun". I don't really feel like I've learnt anything new form the readings about Games since the first few, I think they've all been pretty similar so I tend to zone out from them. I used to read everything and then write my blog but I found that I forgot a lot of what I read so I started to write notes...
